Kite trips - Flecheiras and Guajiru

Great options for waves and flat water

Flecheiras and Guajiru are really close to each other: only 5 km, so we decided to tell everything in only one post. Both are part of the city of Trairi, as wel as the touristic Mundaú, that can also be appreciated by kitesurf.

Flecheiras is a well known place by the windsurfers, specially because of the waves. The village of the beach is already a bit evolved, with lots of beach bars, nice hotels, restaurants and big private houses. Guajirú (do not mess up with Ilha do Guajirú, in Itarema, a little further downwind) has a small fishing village, really rustic, but with some good options of places to stay. Kitesurfers tend to choose to stay in Guajiru.

The kite spot

When in Flecheiras, the best place for freestyle practice is by the beach, between the roundabout and the village. In the middle of the corals and rocks, some flat lagoons are formed during low tide, a bit choppy on high tide. Upwind to the village, there is a coral barrier that forms waves, but you should be extra cautious withe stones and fish traps around!

In Guajirú, all the beach is proper for kitesurf. With a good support around, as beach bars, kite schools and instructors, kiting there is not complicated. Enjoy the great downwinds you can do around the area!

When to go

Like the other beaches in Ceará state, the season normally happens between July and January. The best months are from August to November, being September the strongest month for the wind.

We were there during low season (February), so we had what we were expecting for: rain!

Where to stay

As Flecheiras is bigger than Guajirú and has more options of restaurants and bars at night, you might choose staying there if that's important to your kitetrip.

But, if you are seeking the best place for kitesurfing, you should definetely choose to stay in Guajirú. One highly recommended pousada is Rede Beach, we already heard a lot of guests that really enjoyed the place and always stay there when in Guajirú. We were never there, but we think it is a good tip!

(*) We, unfortunately, haven't had a good hospitality experience in Flecheiras. Maybe because it was low season, we do't know... So that is why we prefer not to comment the place we stayed!

Where to eat

In Flecheiras there are some options of pizzerias and local food. We wee in two places that we can recommend::

* Maré Alta Restaurant , by the beach, opened during the day and night. Local and traditional food, in a rustic environment made with local wood and shells.

* Orixás Restaurant - from the pousada with the same name, also by the beach, close to center area. More fancy, as the hotel, but with a nice variety and delicious food.

In Guajirú, we also have good recommendations on the restaurant of the Rede Beach Pousada.
