Kite trips - Taíba

Must stop spot for kitewave lovers!

Taíba is a beach from the city São Gonçalo do Amarante, located between the famous spots of Cumbuco and Paracuru and the perfect stop for the enjoyers of kitewave. Small town vibe, some options of restaurants and spacious b&b's right in front of the beach area. Taíba is a must stop when in between Fortaleza to Barra Grande. Many downwind trips start from here, specially because Taíba is the first beach after the Pecém Port, what makes it easier for every kitesurfer.

The kite spot

In Taíba, the best part for freestyle practice is in the Taíba lagoon, a perennial lagoon just 6 km  downwind from central area, that is formed during the rainy season. It is also possible to get to the lagoon by car, but as there are many parts of sand, you would better benefit from a buggy.

For kitewave, all the beach, after the cliffs, is perfect for the practice. You can surf a really long wave from the center to the lagoon, with side onshore wind blowing all the time.

Attention: the areas close to the cliff (central Taíba) create no-wind zones - avoid them when kiting. This area is also called the surf area, because of the waves and surfers around.

When to go

The wind season also happens between July and January. September is the stronger month for the winds.

The wind normally starts at 10 am and stays strong until 3 pm, when it starts to drop a bit. It can come back by the end of the day or, sometimes, it blows constantly all day long.

We were there during low season (May/16) but even by that time we could see a few (big) kites on the water.

Where to stay

You have two options: stay at the village or close to the spot, by the beach.
We picked up Vila Marola, a nice pousada B&B just in front of the spot, with all you need for a nice kitetrip.

Where to eat

There are some options at the village (maybe there will be more during high season). We had a beer and a small appetizer just right to the cliff, in a really charming bar that we can't remember the name... The owner is also a kitesurfer (If you do know where we are talking about, please tell us!).

At night, we had dinner at the pousada, Vila Marola.

Close to the pousada there were no options opened, but for high season you should find something!
